3D scanning

Data acquisition is the first stage of any laser scanning project. We can scan many different types of large objects such as industrial buildings and structures, vessels, normal buildings, historical objects, monuments etc. Scanning allows to measure from thousands to hundreds of millions of points with high accuracy without direct contact with the object. Usually it is impossible to scan the whole object from one station only and to get the full information - scanning has to be made from different points of view. Point clouds taken from different scanner positions are put together into one coordinate frame and are later processed together. We can provide our clients with this type of RAW point cloud data in suitable file formats.

3D scan data can be used in the following ways:

  • Real life situation viewing and taking measurements in the office
  • Reduced construction and Re-work
  • Reduction in inspection costs- fewer days and fewer personnel
  • Creation of as built 3D models and 2D drawings
  • Dimensional analyses and comparison of theoretical model with real objects and vrtual demonstrations
  • Calculation of volumes and areas
  • Reduction of expensive designs and improvement in design models
  • Obtainment of measurements in difficult places and out of human reach

Working with scan data requires special software. It might be a stand alone software which can allow viewing, managing scan data, taking measurements and creating 3D models.

There also some plugins available for CAD-software (like AutoCAD, MicroStation, Rhinoceros 3D, 3DS MAX etc.) which allows to load scan data and manipulate it with standard CAD tools.

Free, Easy Viewing & Measuring of Point Clouds

Simple to use over the Web or via local files, Leica TruView software is for everyday professionals who want to easily view and measure rich, laser scan point clouds without having to be an expert in laser scanning, CAD, or 3D.

In TruView, users can extract real 3D coordinates and accurately measure distances. Results appear right on the point cloud image. Markups are also easy to create, to save and to share with  peers, service provider, or with clients for more effective communication.

It also improves health and safety as engineers have to be on the vessel a lot lesser.
